The Norwich Theatre Royal Actors Company have returned to the Playhouse for another week of hot new drama. You can see THE PILLOWMANÂ here nightly from Tuesday 19 – Saturday 23 October at 7.30pm.

This viciously funny, seriously disturbing and pitch black comedy - from the writer of award-winning film In Bruges, Martin McDonagh’s - premièred at the National Theatre in 2003 starring David Tennant, and won the 2004 Olivier Award for Best New Play.

A writer is interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories and their similarities to a number of child-murders that are happening in his town. The good cop/bad cop antics of his interrogators mask a very dark undertone as the author is pressured into revealing the events of his own childhood that inspired his writing.

Heading the cast is former UEA student Jamie Bower, who will be playing the violent detective Ariel, he will be joined by James Scales, who plays the writer Katurian. Also starring is Norwich-based actor and Theatre Royal arts course tutor Asa Cannell, who plays the writer’s brother Michal, completing the cast is John O’Mahony. Norfolk-born-and-bred Daniel Burgess is also taking the reins of the play as director.

Make sure you check out this unique performance of a very special play, which is guaranteed to have you glued to your seat

Do you revel in the dark delights of Edgar Allen Poe?

Do you enjoy the macabre chill of Wilkie Collins’ gothic murder mysteries?

For the last couple of years, Les Enfants Terribles Theatre Company have been one of the must-see companies at the E4 Udderbelly (that big upside-down purple inflatable cow) at the Edinburgh Festival and at the new Udderbelly Festival on London’s South Bank. Their 2008 children’s show The Terrible Infants, a Roald Dahl and Tim Burton-esque collection of stories, was hugely acclaimed and won a number of awards, including The Stage Critics Choice.

They bring their current show, Ernest and the Pale Moon, to Norwich Playhouse on Saturday 27 March at 6pm and 8.30pm. This deliciously dark show is a is a noir horror about a man who spends his days watching the beautiful young woman who lives opposite him. Upon seeing her with another man he is thrown into rage and driven to murder. Slowly Ernest is on a spiralling descent into madness. The piece contains live music, inventive design and physical storytelling to provide a thrilling and terrifying experience.

Tickets are murderously bargainous at only £10/£8

“A gloriously gothic production”

THE TELEGRAPH ****

“Channelling Edgar Allan Poe and Henry James.. the company produces a compelling and macabre account of obsession, immurement and murder …”
